Partial compliance in Kano as labour strike begins

The nationwide indefinite strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC has seen a mixed response in Kano.

The strike’s impact has been inconsistent in the aforementioned region as some private schools in areas like Mariri are conducting classes without interruption.

Additionally, motor parks, police stations, and fuel stations are not participating in the strike.

Conversely, this reporter gathered that some public sector institutions have complied with the strike.

Offices providing adult education and National Identification Number, NIN services are closed.

Nasarawa Hospital, along with several polytechnics and government schools, have also shut down in support of the industrial action.

Recall that both unions had given an ultimatum of May 31, 2024, for negotiations on the new minimum wage.

The organized labour negotiators had walked out of the meeting for the third time over refusal by the government to make a new offer beyond N60,000.
