Family source discloses details of Anambra Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s death

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, tragically passed away late Friday night after returning from a walk. A family source disclosed the incident on Saturday evening.

The 52-year-old politician had arrived in London three days earlier from Abuja for the summer holidays with his family. According to the source, Ubah complained to his wife, Uchenna, of feeling unusually weak and tired after his walk.

“Seeing how weak her husband had become, Uchenna called emergency services for help. But he slumped before the ambulance and first responders arrived at their residence. He was confirmed dead at the hospital,” the source revealed.

Born on September 3, 1971, in Umuanuka, Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State, Ifeanyi was the first son in a family of seven children. Due to financial constraints, he dropped out of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, to learn trade at a young age.

Fondly called “Ebube Chukwu Uzo,” meaning “Placing God First,” Ubah was a notable Nigerian politician, entrepreneur, and businessman. He served as the CEO of Capital Oil (CCO), which he founded in 2001, and ran the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation.

Elected Senator in 2019 on the Young Progressive Party (YPP) platform, Ubah was reelected in 2023. He also contested the 2021 Anambra governorship election, finishing fourth. In September 2022, he survived an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his convoy in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State, resulting in the deaths of at least five people, including two policemen.

Earlier this year, Ubah defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had expressed interest in the 2025 Anambra governorship election.

He is survived by his wife, Uchenna, a Business Administration graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, and their five children.
