Police release picture of the officer involved in the killing of popular musician Igbo-Jah
The Enugu state police command has released images of the police officer who is believed to be responsible for the tragic death of a male traditional Ogene musician named Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, who is also known by his stage name Igbo-Jah.
According to information provided by the police, the incident occurred when the musician was reportedly leaving the Squad’s Headquarters after what was described as a friendly visit. For reasons that are still unclear and need further investigation, a police officer identified as Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph fired his rifle, which resulted in the musician being struck. This unfortunate event took place on October 25.

Following the incident, the musician was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had passed away. The medical staff directed that his body be moved to the mortuary for preservation as well as for an autopsy to provide more details regarding the cause of death.
In a statement issued by the state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, it was reported that the Commissioner of Police for the Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, along with several high-ranking officials from the State Government, visited the family of the deceased musician on October 26, 2024. During the visit, they offered condolences to the family of Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, known in the music scene as Igbo-Jah, regarding the tragic and untimely death of their loved one, which was attributed to the actions of a police officer.
