Bauchi civil service suspends six officers over alleged misconduct

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission (BSCSC) has suspended six civil servants following allegations of gross misconduct related to the misappropriation of government property.

Sale Umar, the commission’s Information Officer, confirmed the suspension in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Bauchi.

According to Umar, the suspension was decided on Thursday during the commission’s valedictory sitting for 2024, held at the commission’s conference hall.

He noted that the suspension took immediate effect from that day.

The suspended officers are accused of selling or converting government assets, which were removed from ongoing construction projects, including the flyover bridges at Wunti and Central Market in Bauchi metropolis.

These assets are valued at millions of Naira.

Umar stated that the alleged actions violated Section 0327 of the Bauchi State Public Service Regulations, and described the misconduct as a serious offense.

“It was a serious wrongdoing and improper behavior; hence, the Commission suspended them under Section 0331 of the State Public Service Regulations to allow for an investigation by the relevant authorities,” Umar explained.

The suspended officers are all staff members of the State Ministry of Works and Transport, attached to the State Infrastructures Development and Maintenance Agency.

They include a Chief Store Officer, a Senior Technical Officer, a Senior Fireman, a Senior Works Superintendent, and two Technical Assistant Electrical.

In addition, the commission announced the promotion of 79 deserving civil servants to various positions.

Umar also revealed that two nursing officers, Rakiya Musa and Ibrahim Lawan, had been reinstated into the state’s civil service.
