Tinubu celebrates Atiku Abubakar at 78, acknowledges role in nation-building
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm birthday wishes to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who turned 78 today, recognizing his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and his philanthropic efforts.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communications, Sunday Dare, Tinubu highlighted Atiku’s active involvement in shaping Nigeria’s democratic process since the country’s return to civilian rule in 1999.
President Tinubu reflected on the many significant moments shared with the Wazirin Adamawa, both as allies and as political adversaries.
He recalled their partnership as founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where they were united in their mission to foster a brighter future for Nigerians.
Tinubu also acknowledged their spirited contest during the 2023 presidential election, describing Atiku as a worthy political opponent who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to public service.

The President lauded Atiku’s dedication to philanthropy and nation-building, describing him as a statesman whose contributions have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prays that Almighty Allah continues to grant Wazirin Adamawa good health, happiness, and wisdom as he continues to contribute to the growth and development of our beloved nation,” the statement read.
Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President (1999–2007) and the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political sphere. His tenure in public service and his philanthropic initiatives have cemented his legacy as a key player in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
The President’s message underscores the enduring value of mutual respect and recognition in Nigeria’s political landscape, even amidst fierce competition and divergent ideologies.
