Garba assumes office as AIG zone 5, pledges people-friendly policing

AIG Salma-Dogo Garba, on Thursday, assumed office as the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 5, Benin with a pledge to lead a people-friendly police.
Thie Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), SP Tijani Momoh, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, indicated that Garba arrived at the Zonal command headquarters in Benin on Thursday, and succeeded AIG Arungwa Nwazue, who has retired from the Force.
Addressing officers and men at the Zonal headquarters, he also pledged to ensure a proactive policing.
The new AIG also solicited the cooperation of residents in the zone to assist the police with useful and timely information that would help the force in check crimes and criminality.
Garba, a native of Pakata, Kwara State, was born on July 21, 1966.
He had his basic education at Al-Mubarak Primary School, Ilorin, before proceeding to Kabba Teachers College, Kogi, where he got his Grade II certificate.
“The AIG, thereafter, attended Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Sociology.
“His career in the Force commenced on May 18, 1992, when he enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and trained at the famous Nigeria Police Academy Annex in Kaduna State.
In the course of his career, the AIG had been privileged to serve in several departments of the Force, which included Department of Operations, and Criminal Investigation Department.
He also served in Force Intelligence Department, Department of Finance and Administration among others.
Garba was once the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Zone 12 Police Command, Bauchi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Anambra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Airport Police Command, Abuja.
He was also once the Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Commissioner of Police, Armament, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
He was later redeployed as the 46th Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command.
He was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police on February 12, and redeployed to Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin covering Delta and Edo Commands.
