FG declares March 31, April 1 public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr,  calls for unity, prayers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays in celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the government extended warm Eid greetings to the Muslim faithful and urged Nigerians to uphold the virtues fostered during Ramadan, including self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in building a harmonious and united nation.

He called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the country, stressing that the spirit of Eid should serve as a catalyst for bridging religious and ethnic divides.

“This joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr should inspire unity and cooperation among Nigerians, regardless of background,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

The Minister also urged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true essence of Ramadan and Eid.

On behalf of the Federal Government, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful, praying that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone.

The declaration of the public holidays reaffirms the government’s commitment to fostering religious harmony and national unity, as millions of Muslims across Nigeria prepare for festive celebrations following a month of fasting and devotion.
