DICON, SP Offshore Nigeria sign partnership on ammunition, others

The Defence Industries Cooperation of Nigeria (DICON) and SP Offshore Nigeria Limited, on Thursday, signed a partnership on ammunition weapons and security equipment products.

Maj. – Gen. Babatunde Alaya, Director General of (DICON), while signing the Partnership, said it marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s defense industry on self-sufficiency.

Alaya said, “The joint venture is aimed to produce ammunition, weapons, and security equipment, including fast assault boats and border security equipment.”

“The partnership will establish an ammunition production line, with production expected to commence within a year.

” After establishing the ammunition production line, the partnership will move on to produce weapons.

He also said that a jetty will be set up in Lagos for producing security equipment, including fast assault boats and border security equipment.

He said the company and their foreign investors are bringing billions of dollars to support the joint venture.

Alaya commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the DICON Act 2023, which enabled the joint venture agreement.

The DG also appreciated the Minister of Defense, Minister of State for Defense, Chief of Defense Staff, and Service Chiefs for their continuous support.

He said that the partnership is expected to satisfy the defense requirements of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, with excess capacity for export.

“This collaboration is seen as a win-win for all parties involved, driving growth and development in Nigeria’s defense industry, “Alaya said.

Earlier in his remarks the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SP Offshore Nigeria Limited, Obafemi Adekunle, said that future wars will be fought with technology, not just arms.

Adekunle emphasises the importance of technological advancements in modern warfare, highlighting the need for deterrence capabilities to protect against potential threats.

He said the partnership is to provide security agencies with capabilities that deter enemies and promote national stability.

The CEO appreciated the various individuals and groups for their contributions to the partnership and vision.

Adekunle also lauded the DG for inspiring and achieving remarkable results in a short time, with expectations of future collaborations.

On future collaboration, Adekunle said his company is  forging new paths and achieving great things with the DG and other partners, valuing their expertise and contributions to the partnership and future endeavors. (NAN)
