Zamfara mourns as emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, passes away at 71
The people of Zamfara State are in deep mourning following the passing of His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau.
The revered monarch died on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 71, after a protracted illness at a medical facility in Abuja.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves across the state, with the Governor describing the loss as profoundly personal.
“The late Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello, was a supportive royal father and a capable leader who dedicated himself to making Zamfara State better,” the Governor stated, expressing his deep sadness.

Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who was the 15th Emir of Gusau, ascended to the throne on March 16, 2015, and dedicated 10 years of his life to serving his people with commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of faith.
Before his reign, he had a distinguished career as an accomplished civil servant, rising to the highest position of Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the immediate and extended families of the late Emir, the Gusau emirate, and the entire populace of Zamfara State.
He further emphasized that the Emir’s passing is a “huge loss for the people of Zamfara, as well as for the North and Nigeria as a whole,” highlighting his role as a unifying figure and a source of wisdom for leaders and citizens alike.
The late Emir’s funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Gusau Emirate Council.
