The Match-Fixing Allegations Threatening to End a Super Eagles Career, Obasogie Breaks Silence on Match-Fixing Suspension: ‘I Will Never Engage in Such Acts’
Super Eagles goalkeeper insists errors against Flambeau du Centre and Namungo FC were performance mistakes, not deliberate misconduct
Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has strongly denied allegations of match-fixing after being handed a three-month suspension by Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars, insisting that poor performances should never be confused with deliberate manipulation.
The former Bendel Insurance shot-stopper, in a statement released in response to the ban, said the allegations were deeply troubling and pledged full cooperation with any investigation into his conduct.

“I state clearly and unequivocally that I have never engaged in match fixing and will never do so,” Obasogie said.
The Nigerian international pointed to two specific matches at the centre of the allegations, a CAF Confederation Cup tie against Flambeau du Centre and an NBC Premier League fixture against Namungo FC, maintaining that the goals he conceded in both games were down to footballing errors alone.

“I accept full responsibility for my performance; however, mistakes on the field must not be mistaken for match manipulation,” he added.
Obasogie, who is aware of the severe consequences that match-fixing carries for players at all levels, said his integrity and reputation were too important to compromise.
“I have sworn never to bring the game of football, my club, or my country into disrepute,” he stated.
The goalkeeper said he is prepared to face a disciplinary committee to defend himself, adding that he is “ready and willing to appear before any disciplinary committee to clear my name.”
The suspension remains in place as investigations continue.
