The husband of a woman allegedly killed by her co-wife in Bauchi State has been hospitalised after suffering trauma following the incident, the state Police Command has confirmed.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this on Thursday while responding to inquiries about the latest development in the case.

Habib said the man’s condition was not disclosed but confirmed that he was receiving medical attention following the incident. He added that the investigation was ongoing and that the case would be taken to court after the conclusion of the investigation.

The deceased was identified as 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, while the suspect was identified as her 33-year-old co-wife, Hauwa’u Haruna.

According to the police, the incident occurred at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis on September 27, 2026.

Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the two women, who lived in the same household with their husband, had reportedly been involved in repeated disagreements.

The police alleged that Haruna, the second wife, picked up a pestle and struck Adamu on the forehead, causing her to lose consciousness. She was subsequently taken to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a doctor pronounced her dead. Her remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The suspect was arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack remained under investigation. The authorities have not established in court that the suspect committed the offence.

The command also advised families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health difficulties and urged residents to report cases of domestic violence to the appropriate authorities.
