Jonathan’s Burgled House: Police drags dismissed officer to court

Few days after four police officers that burgled the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s house in Abuja, one of the dismissed sergeant was on Tuesday charged to court at Wuse Customary Court in Abuja.

Sgt Musa Musa, was dismissed from the force after he with other accomplices burgled Jonathan’s house at No. 89 Fourth Avenue, Gwarimpa district, Abuja.

National Daily recalls that items which include six television sets, sets of furniture, refrigerators, air-conditioner units and box-loads of clothes such as designer suits imprinted with the former president’s name, male and female Ijaw traditional attires, lace materials and bowler hats, doors and frames and other household equipment were stolen.

The magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello, it was learnt, after hearing arguments by respective counsels, granted the accused person bail with the sum of N7 million.

Magistrate Segun-Bello while granting Sgt Musa bail said, “The law is clear about right to liberty. Bail is granted to allow the accused attend trial. Where it is perceived that the accused may jump bail, he may be denied.”

It was gathered that the three mobile police officers allegedly looted the entire house without Jonathan family’s knowledge until an inquisitive neighbour called one of the family members to inquire whether the house was undergoing renovation or not before it dawn on them that something sinister was going on in the house.

The looting, it was gathered lasted for over three months beginning from around March 2016, until they totally emptied the house of all movable items, which they sold in piecemeal to dealers at Panteka second-hand materials market at Tipper Garage, Gwarimpa.

Former President Jonathan was said to have lived in the house for about a year when he was vice president. It was also learnt that his mother once lived there too before Jonathan relocated to Aso Rock Villa when he became the Acting President in 2010.
