How Magu’s attempt to arrest Kyari turned out; Buhari reacts
Chief of Staff Abba Kyari was rattled on Sunday as operatives of the EFCC stormed his house in Defence House, Abuja, for either a search or an arrest.
Kyari was said to have quickly informed his ally Director-General Department of State Security Lawan Daura, who mmediately dispatched some of his men to block the EFCC, according to Sahara Reporters.
Daura’s DSS has been blocking a number of EFCC busts lately, especially those involving Daura’s cronies—like the service’s former DG Ita Ekpeyong alleged to have shared in the Dasukigate booty.
In the Sunday incident, the DSS officers, however, were resisted by soldiers guarding the Presidential Villa and its environs, demanding express permission from within the villa.
This got the CoS more panic, suspecting President Muhammadu Buhari might have ordered the arrest.
Magu, who was in the Lagos office of the commission, was on Monday summoned by an angry Buhari for a briefing during which Buhari was said to have been angry that the EFCC was planning to arrest his Chief of Staff without his knowledge.
Magu, according to the online newsportal, was said to have told the President he had not ordered a raid on Kyari’s residence.
Kyari has been giving his boss so much negative press since 2015, and many already believe Buhari has been shielding this associate of his from investigation in spite of numerous petitions and allegations against him.
