Breaking News! Dasuki rearrested by DSS after release from Kuje prison tonight

Hopes of former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd), to breath the air of temporary freedom after he managed to meet bail conditions after eight days in Kuje prison was once again dashed a few hours ago as he has been rearrested by the DSS.

National Daily Investigations gathered from impeccable sources that just as the embattled former NSA had met the bail conditions and was awaiting the prison officials to sign his release papers, orders came from above and he was whisked by the prison officials and driven straight to the DSS headquarters.

According to our sources, on arrival at the DSS headquarters, he was immediately taken into custody and his lawyers’ efforts to reach him have been rebuffed by the Nigerian Secret Service operatives.

A family source who pleaded anonymity to National Daily that Col. Dasuki was already looking forward to going home like others who were his co-accused but surprisingly, he was singled out and first isolated and later driven to the DSS office. He said: “What kind of wickedness is this? Why will they not simply follow the Rule of Law? He has already dropped his travel documents, so why handle him like this? Moreover, this matter is before a Court of competent jurisdiction.” he queried.

Efforts to get the official explanations of the DSS proved abortive as the DSS spokesperson’s phone never went through.

Dasuki had observed the Eid Maulud as well as the Christmas celebrations behind the walls of Kuje prison.

A Federal High Court Judge in Abuja, Justice Peter Affem, had last week Monday granted Dasuki, alongside four others bail but ordered that they be remanded in prison pending when they meet the bail conditions.

Those initially detained alongside the former military Colonel but have been allowed to go home today after they met the bail conditions are, Attahiru Bafarawa, former Sokoto governor; Bashir Yuguda, former minister of state for finance; Shuaibu Salisu, and Sagir, Bafarawa’s son.

The judge had granted them bail in the sum of N250 million each and ordered that they provide two sureties in like sum as well as deposit their international passports at the court, saying that: “bail was not about setting anybody free but that the primary essence of bail is to ensure that the accused person attends trial.”

He also added that the offences the accused persons were alleged to have committed were bailable and adjourned the case to February 2 and February 3, 2016.

As at the time of filing this report, associates and family of the former senior military officer who witness the drama at the Kuje prison complex were still at a loss as to what may have transpired again and who ordered the fresh arrest from above.
