NLC condemns the Massacre of pro-democracy activists in Sudan
By ODIMMEGWA JOHNPETER/ABUJA
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the Massacre of over 100 prodemocracy activist by the Sudanese military junta. This was contained in a statement by the acting president of NLC, comrade Najeem Yasin. The statement condemned the blatant use of force against unarmed and defenseless civilians, which saw killings involving children and several injured persons over the sit-in by protesters to establish a democratic process in Sudan. This, it described as highly condemnable and should no longer be condoned by the international community. According to the NLC, it amounts to an unconscionable betrayal of the Sudanese people for the junta who rode on the protests of prodemocracy forces that ousted former president, Omar-AL-Bashir to turn its gun on the Sudanese people in the manner of AL-Bashir’s Janjaweed. While applauding the timely suspension of Sudan by the African Union (AU), and the intention of the UN to intervene in the political crisis, the NLC call on all persons of good will and the international community to take urgent action to call the junta to order and offer concrete measures for the protection of the lives of activists and the people of Sudan. The NLC urge the global community to unite to help establish negotiations loading to civilians rule under an atmosphere of free and fair election. END
