Army reveals GOC General Irefin died of coronavirus
The Nigerian Army in a medical record of the late General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major-General Olu Irefin, revealed that late General died of coronavirus infection.
The Nigerian Army in a statement by the Director of Public Relations, Brigadier-General Sagir Musa, revealed graphic details of the last moment of late General Irefin, indicated that the disclosure is to forestall fake news emanating from unknown group or individuals. The Army then decided to inform the public about events that led to the death of the Army General.
“The cause of his death was reported as respiratory failure secondary to the complications of Covid-19 infection,” the Army said.
The Nigerian Army described the sudden death of the former GOC as a painful one, while extending its condolences to the family he left behind.
The Nigerian Army subsequently ordered the conduct of coronavirus test on over 400 officers who had contact with the late General before his death and more than 20 tested positive to coronavirus.
