Atiku congratulates new NBA president, Maikyan
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, on his victory. The PDP presidential candidate also congratulated the NBA for a successful election of new principal officers of the association.
Atiku on his official twitter handle Atiku Abubakar @atiku wrote: “I am pleased to rejoice with all members of the Nigerian Bar Association on the emergence of Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, as the new President of the NBA.”
Maikyan will succeed the outgoing President, Olumide Akpata, as the 31st NBA President.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Professor Ayodele Akintunde, SAN, announcing the result of the NBA election conducted virtually, declared that Maikyau had 22, 342 votes to defeat Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN, who had 10, 842 votes; Taidi Jonathan, who had 1,373 votes, and others.
Other elected officers include Mrs. Linda Bala, first Vice President; Clement Ugo, second Vice President; Mrs. Amanda Demechi-Asagba, third Vice President; Adesina Adegbite, General Secretary; Daniel Kip Ka-Ayli, Assistant General Secretary; Ms. Chinyere Obasi, National Welfare Secretary; Habeeb Lawal, National Publicity Secretary; Olawole Ajiboye, Assistant Publicity Secretary; and Anze-Bishop Ladidi, Treasurer.
NBA members also elected 20 lawyers into the NBA General Council to represent the western, eastern, and northern zones.
