REMARKABLE! How a woman’s bravery ended the vices of a dangerous serial rapist
A serial rapist Adhnon Marrtab met his waterloo through the efforts of a brave woman.
The 24-year-old Marrtab had followed a lone woman at 4 am after she had been discharged from a hospital in north London last October.
While she was waiting for a bus in Golders Green, Marrtab grabbed her and dragged her to a churchyard where he raped her.
During the attack, the woman bit hard on his shoulder before she escaped over a fence to call for help.
The mark on the shoulder sustained from the bite which was still on Marrtab six days after the sad incident had helped with the arrest.
Afterwards, Marrtab boarded a bus and Met Police officers were able to trace his movements through CCTV and his Oyster card history.
He was detained a few days later outside a hotel in Wembley.
During a body search, police found a large bite mark on his shoulder, matching the woman’s account of the attack.
Marrtab, of no fixed address, was jailed for nine years at Harrow Crown Court after admitting rape and sexual assault.
Detective constable Pat Leonte, who led the investigation, said: ‘This was an extremely challenging investigation and we trawled mass amounts of CCTV footage across multiple days in pursuit of him.
‘Thanks to the brave victim’s compelling evidence and the work of the wider investigation team, this dangerous man is now behind bars.’
