Buhari disburses $8.5m to evacuate 5,000 Nigerians trapped in Ukraine
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved the disbursement of $8.5 million to the ministries of Foreign Affairs, and Humanitarian, Disaster Management, and Social Development, to evacuate over 5,000 Nigerians trapped in Ukraine.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday disclosed that three aircraft would be dispatched to four countries to bring home Nigerians, both registered and unregistered residents in Ukraine back to the country.
Zubairu Dada identified the countries where the flights would be operating to include Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania.
According to the minister, the flights for the airlifts include two flights of Air Peace and one of Max Air.
The minister said that the flights will be in operation until all the stranded Nigerians are evacuated.
