Chelsea have found new ‘permanent goal threats’ in two players – Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel said wing-back duo Ben Chilwell and Reece James have now become “permanent goal threats” for Chelsea after their goalscoring performance in Saturday’s 7-0 win over Norwich City.
Chilwell continued his fine goalscoring form, having scored in three consecutive Premier League games this season — four, including his goal against Aston Villa on the final day of last season.
James, on the other hand, arguably scored the best goal in the game. He cleverly dinked the ball over Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul from a difficult angle.
Tuchel was understandably very happy with the pair’s overall performances, but he specifically highlighted how crucial their runs into the box are to the team’s plans.
“Now he [Chilwell] is back. He’s pushed luck to his side, he took his chance, and he’s very, very strong, so I’m happy,” the German told Chelsea TV after the game.
“We need the wing-backs to score in our structure, to arrive in the box and be decisive, and both [Chilwell and James] are doing well.”
Speaking to beIN Sports, Tuchel added: “I’m happy for Reece, because now he feels the power he has, and we want more of his acceleration and physical ability.“This is what he can deliver and bring to the team — same with Chilly on the other side.
“The wing-backs are now very, very dangerous. They’re permanent goal threats.
“This is what we need — players’ being in the box, to create spaces.”
