Death toll in Ibadan funfair stampede rises to 35
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that the death toll from the tragic stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan has risen to 35, with six others critically injured.
Speaking during a live radio interview, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso, provided updates on the investigation into the incident.
“I can say categorically now that 35 deaths have been recorded, with six others critically injured,” SP Osifeso disclosed.
In connection with the incident, the police have taken seven suspects into custody, including the principal organiser of the funfair. The arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

SP Osifeso stressed that the case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the causes and hold those responsible accountable.
The stampede occurred earlier this week during a crowded children’s event in Ibadan, drawing widespread condemnation and calls for stricter regulation of public gatherings. This devastating incident has highlighted the urgent need for enhanced safety measures at public events to prevent future occurrences.
