Drama in House as lawmaker seeks Tinubu’s summons over security crisis

A heated session unfolded in the House of Representatives on Wednesday after a lawmaker called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appear before the Green Chamber to explain the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity and the funding of constituency projects.

The motion was moved by Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency of Abia State.

During the debate, the lawmaker expressed concern over the worsening security situation across the country, alleging that many Nigerians continue to face daily incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks.

He also questioned the government’s budgetary priorities, arguing that while significant sums are being committed to major infrastructure projects, communities across the country continue to grapple with insecurity.

“Our people are being kidnapped every day, heads are being chopped off on national television, Nigerians are suffering. We want to invite Tinubu to come and explain to us why we’re spending trillions of naira on coastal roads while Nigerians are dying every day,” the lawmaker said during plenary.

Ikwechegh further argued that the President should address lawmakers on what he described as the persistent lack of funding for constituency projects, which he said are critical to grassroots development and the delivery of democratic dividends.

His remarks sparked a lively debate among members of the House, reflecting growing concerns over security challenges and the implementation of constituency projects across the country.

The outcome of the motion was not immediately clear as deliberations continued.

The development comes amid increasing calls from lawmakers and stakeholders for stronger measures to address insecurity and accelerate the execution of development projects aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
