A popular Twitter doctor based in the United Kingdom, Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya has been exonerated by UK’s Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service from rape allegations levelled against him by his former girlfriend friend, Dr Bolanle Aseyan.

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who is also Olufunmilayo’s lawyer in Nigeria, disclosed this in a post with screenshots of the judgement from the tribunal on his Twitter handle on Wednesday.

The social media influencer who had taken a temporary break from Twitter was cleared by the UK Police after an investigation proved that the allegations were unsubstantiated.

The statement partly read, “Today, July 19, 2023, the Tribunal has announced their decision and determined that all the allegations made against Dr Funmi have not been proved.

“The Tribunal ruled that Dr Funmi’s fitness to practice has not been impaired.

“It is important to state that the standard of proof at the Tribunal which resulted in their findings was based on a balance of probability; and not proved beyond reasonable doubt. This is very significant because it shows that the allegation had no iota of merit or credibility.

“This latest vindication of Funmi is a victory for all victims of false accusations of sexual misconduct.

“As one of the lawyers to Funmi in Nigeria, I’m excited by the outcome of the case at the Medical Tribunal. The false accuser, Dr. Bolanle Aseyan, is currently facing both civil and criminal lawsuits in Nigeria for her actions.”

In October 2020, Bolanle who is based in the UK, via her handle #bola_aseyan in a series of Twitter accused Olufunmilayo of sexually abusing her.

She claimed Olufunmilayo of being a different person from what he presented online and added that she has proof of all he allegedly did to her.

Olufunmilayo, however, denied the allegation, and the matter was dragged before the UK Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service and after three years of trial, Olufunmilayo was exonerated.
