Governor evacuated from gridlock on Kaduna-Abuja highway
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State was evacuated with a helicopter from a horrible gridlock on the Kaduna-Abuja highway which rendered many travelers stranded, including the governor’s convoy.
The gridlock on the Kaduna-Abuja highway was horrible in the early hours of Monday, vehicles traveling either way were locked up and movement came to a standstill. ARISE TV broadcasted the footage view of the gridlock in its Morning Show, monitored by National Daily from Lagos, relaying the sorry state of the situation.
The gridlock was said to have commenced on Sunday, lasting into Monday.
The governor was said to be coming back from Kaduna State where he went to pay condolence to the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, over the demise of a district head, Hammanu Dauda.
Governor Abubakar was rescued from the scene with a helicopter which airlifted him out of the gridlock.
The cause of the gridlock that halted vehicular movement of the highway was not immediately known. Some, however, tentatively attributed the gridlock to likely operations of bandits and kidnappers on the road, bad spots on the road, or accidents.
