Group supports PBAT’s economic strategy, charts pathway for public office holders accountability

A Group known as 9JA36+ has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration, economic reform strategies, citing its prompt disbursement of funds, across all levels of governance as a panacea for even development .

9JA36+, a movement of like minds passionate about the functionality of Nigeria, at its maiden press briefing held on Wednesday at the City People office in Lagos, charted a path for citizens to demand accountability from public office holders.

The group’s Convener Mr. Adebola Adeyemo Adigun (007 Director) during a chat with newsmen explained that the 9JA36+ concept, was informed by the fact that President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that with enough accruals at the disposal of government at the various levels, and especially with local government autonomy fully granted, public office holders should be held accountable by the people.

Adigun maintained that many a times people tends to direct questions about governance wrongly, so 9JA36+ intends to open their sensibilities to asking the right questions from the right public office holders.

Delivering the text of the conference, a Nigerian Actor Obatide Kelvin and one of 9JA36+ co-conveners harped on the goals of the group, which bothers on educating, sensitising and conscientising Nigerians on the ideal relationship between the government and the governed.

“Our goal is to make Nigerians more informed about their government and confident to demand accountability from the right people. Democracy should not end at the polling booth, it must begin with knowledge, understanding and absolute clarity.

“In Nigeria we often focus and talk about the President and the Federal Government, but the truth is that the President cannot do it alone.

“Nigeria runs a democratic system and every elected office has a role to play.

“From our councillors, to our local government chairmen, to our state legislators, the governors, House of Reps members and Senators, each person elected or appointed into office carries a responsibility to the people and if the people occupying these offices are not delivering on those responsibilities Nigeria cannot work the way it should.”

Speaking earlier a stakeholder in the 9JA36+ project Mr. Adedeji Babalola, echoed the need to ensure that public office holders aligns with the intendment of the President, in making funds available for even development and distribution of wealth amongst the citizens, thereby ensuring their wellbeing.

Another foremost Nollywood Celebrity Madam Remi Oshodi (Alias Surutu) also a co-convener was quick to add part of what the role of the group would be, “We would act on compliants,where the citizens are complaining or lacking anything in their jurisdiction within the state.

“We will step up, go to their offices and speak to them that this is what the citizens want , please can you respond to it?

“Whosoever is not responding would be exposed.”

She however, charged the electorates to get their PVCs to be able to vote and contribute actively to the advancement of good governance in Nigeria, rather than they joining the league of complainants that elections have been rigged without performing their civic obligations.

Others co-conveners are; Ibitayo Buhari, Temitope Tijani, Obasola Adigun, Rykardo Agbor,Kafaru Waheed, Sonaike Taiwo and Bakare olamide.
