Reports from the archives showed how a court convicted a mother, 45 years old, who got formally married to her biological daughter who was 26 years, in same sex marriage. The mother was the husband and the daughter was the wife. The mother had earlier married her biological son who was 18 years. The son was husband to the mother. Both the daughter and the son had since filed and secured divorce, and they have all parted ways.

The mother, Patricia Ann Spann, 45 years, while facing prosecution for incest in the State of Oklahoma, had admitted that she wedded her biological daughter, Misty Velvet Dawn Spann, 26 years old.

Patricia Ann Spann had narrated to the authorities that she lost custody of her children as a young mother, reunited with her daughter in 2014, and both became married in March 2016, after a state legislation made same-sex marriage legal.

The same sex marriage between the mother and daughter was unraveled by the Department of Human Services in the course of a child welfare check-up, the BBC had reported. This led to the case of incest.

According to the State of Oklahoma, Investigators later discovered that Patricia Ann Spann had earlier wedded her biological son, who was then 18 years old. The boy who had formally married his mother in 2008, later secured a divorce when he discovered it was an incest marriage in 2010.

The State of Oklahoma also revealed that the daughter, Misty Spann, secured a divorce of the marriage with her biological mother in October 2017, contesting that she was “fraudulently induced” into the same sex marriage.

Misty Spann was cited to have disclosed that her mother deceived her with a lie that she consulted “three separate attorneys who advised there would be no problems with the marriage.”

The biological mother, Patricia Ann Spann, had reportedly insisted that the marriage was legal, arguing that ‘she was not listed as the biological mother on her daughter’s birth certificate’ and ‘had only come into contact with her two years ago beforehand.’

Despite the legality of same sex, it was asserted that “under state law in Oklahoma, marriage to a close relative is considered incest, regardless of whether a sexual relationship exists.”

Invariably, the daughter, Misty Spann, pleaded guilty to incest in November 2017; she was sentenced 10 years of probation and required to undergo counseling.

Also, the mother, Patricia Spann, was sentenced to two years prison term by the court; she was also to serve eight years of probation and must register as a sex offender upon release.
