A Lagos lawmaker Hon. Rasheed Makinde has said that no amount of increment of workers minimum wage would address the issue they are faced with in the country, as the economic situation will rob off negatively on an average worker.

Makinde representing the Ifako Ijaiye II constituency at the Lagos State house of Assembly, gave the charge while in the midst of crowd of supporters for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s re-election for the second term in Ijaiye Ojokoro area of Lagos, citing the need for a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and a stable economy as a necessity rather than the cravings for increased wages.

According to him, the wages is not the problem of our workers, but the social benefit, when you have social welfare you can still augment with what you are earning.

“We cannot compare ourselves to others in advance countries with what they are earning, they have conducive environment, the public transport is working, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is trying to do that here too, we have other access to other benefits, particularly the employment trust fund those are the components brought together in organized settings to cushion what they get as take home.
“So the salary increment is not what we really need, we want the economy to be stabilized, whatever you are earning can be able to get you what you really want. if you are giving 200,000 as minimum wage and inflation rate continue to rise at a geometric rate how do you compare that?
“So we need a stable economy and it must be done together not only government alone, we have corporate bodies, individuals come into this, China is being a great country today, through the contributions of individuals over there not only government, government is only providing enabling environment for entrepreneurs to thrive”.
Speaking on the essence of the Ambo/Makinde ‘19 walk, the legislator maintained that it would ensure healthy frame for the constituents and as well as to sensitize the public about the importance of claiming their PVC.
“The Permanent Voters Card is the only instrument we can use to chose our leaders who would represent us during the 2019 general elections aside this we are using this gathering to tell constituents that the government is doing well in our constituency, presently we are having more than fourteen roads being constructed by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode government, we are confirming it that the government of the day is the one to follow.

He added that “The last election we have over 25,000 votes, but for Ambode the Ojokoro people will deliver 35,000 votes come 2019.

Teaming constituents and members of the All Progressives Congress in Ifako-Ijaiye II constituency, jointly prodded by G-35 Elite Movement Ojokoro Formidable Team staged a walk to state their unalloyed support for the re-emergence of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and their representative at the Lagos State House of Assembly Hon.Rasheed Makinde come 2019 general elections, citing unprecedented turn around and developments in their environs as the main reason for their resolve.
