Three sentenced to death for armed robbery
The Ekiti State High Court has sentenced Alexander Solomon, Desmond Peter, and Eric Tile to death by hanging for armed robbery and conspiracy. The convictions stem from a robbery on July 7, 2022, where the defendants, armed with firearms, stole laptops, phones, and ₦540,000.
The Ekiti State High Court has sentenced three individuals to death by hanging for armed robbery and conspiracy. The convicted men are Alexander Solomon (29), Desmond Peter (29), and Eric Tile (30).
A fourth defendant, Promise Shie (27), was discharged and acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The court found the trio guilty of armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms in connection with a robbery incident that occurred on July 7, 2022, along the Ilumoba-Aisegba Ekiti Road.
Justice Bamidele Omotoso stated, “I hold that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the offences of conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms against the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants.”
In delivering the sentence, Justice Omotoso added, “For the offence of conspiracy and armed robbery, you are all sentenced to death by hanging; may the Lord have mercy on your souls.”

Prosecutor Gbemiga Adaramola informed the court that the convicts, armed with guns, had robbed victims Okey Jude and Jayeoba Ayobami of laptops, phones, and ₦540,000 in cash, among other items.
To support the prosecution’s case, four witnesses were called, and various exhibits were presented, including two firearms, phones, laptops, a cutlass, an axe, and face masks.
The defendants provided their defense through their lawyers but did not call any witnesses.
