Update: Gas explosion kills many at Ladipo Market, Lagos
Gas explosion in the morning hours of Tuesday killed yet to be known numbers of persons near the popular Ladipo Market, Ladipo, Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos State. About five persons were identified to have died at the early stage of interventions, many injured and several others trapped in the inferno.
The Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) domestic retail outlet at Ojekunle Street, at the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market, exploded on Tuesday morning.
An official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, had acknowledged that four adult dead bodies have been recovered from the debris of the explosion. The dead bodies were identified to include three men and one woman, further identified as Mama Funmi.
The rescue team luckily saved a 10-year-old boy from the scene who was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, but unfortunately the boy died before arriving at the hospital.
Rescue operations are still ongoing at the time of this report. Property worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the explosion.
