UPDATED: Prof Yiltwada, ex-Benue REC, Humanitarian Affairs Minister, is APC’s new national chairman

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Prof. Nentawe Yiltwada, as National Chairman of the party.

Yiltwada, former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State, replaces Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned on June 27.

Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, made the nomination, and he was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas.

The NEC meeting is currently ongoing at the Presidential Villa.

Born on August 8, 1968, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who hails from Plateau State, was appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in Nigeria, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2024.

A politician, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda ran for the governorship of Plateau State in the 2023 elections on the platform of APC after resigning from INEC.

Between July 2017 and December 2021, he was the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Benue State.

Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda  was appointed by late President Muhammadu Buhari.

An academic, he was also the ICT director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for 12 years.

Nentawe served as the director of ICT developing a 10-year ICT strategy plan encompassing ICT architecture and information flows associated with the various functions, processes, and key reports that the system will need to generate on a regular basis.

Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda was a member of the University’s Senate from 2006 to 2017.

Nentawe was the coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organization in Plateau State during the 2023 general election.
