Why Chelsea will not wear golden badge for winning Club World Cup in Premier League
Thomas Tuchel’s side will be able to wear the gold FIFA Champions Badge in Europe after beating Palmeiras in extra time last night but it will not be used in the Premier League
Chelsea have earned the right to wear a gold badge on their shirts for the first time following last night’s Club World Cup win over Palmeiras at Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.

But the emblem will not appear in Premier League games as a change to kits in mid-season is against regulations.
They will, however, display it in the Champions League round of 16 game against Lille and Thomas Tuchel’s team could wear it in domestic games but the club would need to make a formal application to the FA.
The badge, which can be worn until next season’s Club World Cup, is also only allowed to appear on first-team shirts and banned from being used on training gear or retro shirts.
While FIFA keeps prize money a closely guarded secret, it is understood that the Blues earned $5million (£3.68million) for last night’s triumph – which may be dwarved by the £100million for winning the Champions League but is not a bad bonus for one week of work in the sunshine.
Roman Abramovich was straight on to the pitch to celebrate with his players and staff, giving Thomas Tuchel a high five.
The German head coach, who only arrived in Abu Dhabi on the eve of the game following a negative Covid-19 test, said afterwards of his conversation with the owner: “I said congratulations, he said congratulations, and I said it’s for you.
“It’s your club and it’s your input and your passion that made this possible and we’re happy to be part of it.”
