By Eben Enasco Kingsley, Benin City
A front line Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Earl Onaiwu has commended the Nigerian Police Force for their role in securing the release of the wife of the former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Zakawanu Hassana, who was taken hostage last Tuesday.
Mrs Garuba Hassana, a Chief Magistrate with the Edo State judiciary, was freed by the kidnappers with three other victims, including two medical doctors who were randomly taken from a commercial bus the same day she was taken.
While the Magistrate and the two doctors were abducted along the Benin-Auchi road after the kidnappers shot her police orderly simply identified as Marcus, the fourth victim was a farmer who unknowingly ran into the kidnappers in the forest and was tied to a tree.

Speaking however, on their release, Onaiwu expressed his unquantified gratitude to the Nigerian police who did not rest on its oars and saw to the end result of rescuing Hassana.
He also appealed to Fulani herdsmen in the state to live harmoniously with the Edo people, noting that the Edo people are congruous and are known to be peace-loving people.
Mr Onaiwu while appealing to the perpetrators to think out of the box however, lamented the avert effects this heinous act has caused the society at large.
