2 allies of El-Rufai who dumped APC for PDP within 24 hours and the effect of their defections
It is no more news, that some members of the All Progressives Congress APC, who are very loyal to the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, had dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
It was gathered that Jimi Lawal, who is a prominent APC leader and one of the loyalists of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, had dumped the APC for the PDP in the state.
It was also gathered that Jimi Lawal has obtained the governorship form, under the platform of the PDP, to contest the forthcoming governorship election in Ogun State. It should be recalled that Jimi Lawal is a Special Adviser to Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Investment and Promotion in Kaduna state.
Barely 24 hours, it was also reported that, another close ally of Governor El-Rufai, Sani Sidi, had also decamped from APC to the PDP in the state.
It should be recalled, that Sidi was the Former Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Governorship Aspirant in 2019 in the State, made his intention known, at the PDP Kaduna Central Senatorial office, Ungwar Seriki at the weekend.
He told his teeming supporters, who stormed the party office, that there was no place like home, ” I am back home and for good,” Sidi stated.
However, the defections occurred within 24 hours interval to each other and this might affect the structure of APC in both Kaduna and Ogun State.
It should be recalled that some prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress APC, had earlier dumped the party for PDP in the state.
One of the prominent leaders in the state, who had joined PDP, is the former Senator, Senator Shehu Sani. Though Shehu Sani had earlier dumped the All Progressives Congress APC for the Peoples Redemption Party PRP, but he later joined the PDP in the State.
Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani and Sidi may team up and work against the All Progressives Congress APC in the state. As a result of this, APC may find it difficult to win the forthcoming governorship polls in the state.
However, Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC, will also feel the impact of Jimi Lawal’s Defection to PDP. The reason is that APC, is not settled in the state.
The Governor of the state, Governor Dapo Abiodun and the former Governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, are fighting each other, over the Leadership of the Party in the state.
As a result of this, Jimi’s defection to PDP may slim the winning Chances of Governor Dapo Abiodun second term Governorship Ambition in the state.
