2016: NFF earmarks N5.9bn for national teams
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has proposed to fund the activities of all national teams with N5.9 billion in 2016.
This is contained in a document circulated to members of the federation at its ongoing Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Abuja.
The document showed that N1.5 billion would be spent on Super Eagles’ participation in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) scheduled for Rwanda from Jan. 16 to Feb. 7, 2016.
It stated that the amount would take care of the team’s camping and selection of players, qualifying matches (home and away), overseas training tour as well as actual participation in the competition.
It estimated that U-20 FIFA Women World Cup billed for Papua New Guinea from Nov. 13 to Dec.3, would gulp N672 million.
The amount would be spent on qualifying matches, overseas training tour and the competition.
The federation also earmarked about N369 million for Dream Team VI’s preparation and participation in Rio Olympics.
During the year, according to the estimate, Nigeria’s preparation and participation in the U-20 men’s Cup of Nations would gulp N620 million.
Also, N471 million would be spent on Beach football competition tagged “COPA Lagos’’ during the year.
A budget of about N651 million was also made for the country’s preparation and participation in the U-17 Women World Cup in Jordan.
It provided N920 million for Africa Women Championship in November, while N220 million would be expended on Men and Women Federation Cup competition.
The sum of N115million, the estimate indicated, would be spent on U-13 and U-15 Youth Championships at the grassroots.
The AGA for 2016 received an estimate of N54million, while about N286 million would go for the payment of coaches’ salaries.
