Election cases in 36 states move to Abuja, Lagos appeal courts
All the election petition cases in the 36 states of the Federation have been transferred to Abuja and Lagos divisions of the Appeal Court by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, for hearing of appeals.
The Appeal Court President, Justice Dongban-Mensem, was put under pressure by mountain of petitions and protests from political parties and their candidates, who raised alarm that governors influenced and compromised tribunals judges during the trial of the various cases across the states.

Judgements on virtually all election petitions by the various tribunals were unsatisfactory to some of the petitioners, except those who won their cases. Even in the instance of a party winning, the loser is dissatisfied.
Accordingly, virtually all the judgements were being challenged by candidates and their parties on appeal.
Apparently, all the cases would by now be determined by the Court of Appeal in Abuja and Lagos.
The cases include gubernatorial, national and state assemblies’ election petitions.
The Appeal Court President, before transferring the petition suits to Abuja and Lagos, was said to have investigated the allegations against the governors, with findings that some governors and tribunal judges may be culpable.
