SOKAPU calls for urgent action amidst killings, destruction in Southern Kaduna

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has issued an urgent plea for intervention following the destruction of farm crops, the killing of several individuals, and the kidnapping of eight people in Kauru and Kachia Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

In a statement, SOKAPU expressed deep concern over the “devastating” attacks by herdsmen in Kauru LGA, which have left multiple victims and caused significant destruction to farmland.

The union described the incident as heartbreaking and disturbing, noting that it has severely impacted struggling farmers, many of whom are already facing hardship.

“These victims are mostly farmers, including women. Among them is a woman who supports her partially blind husband, and whose farm crops were completely destroyed by the rampaging cattle,” said Josiah Yusuf Abraks, SOKAPU’s Public Relations Officer. The statement also lamented that the perpetrators of these acts have yet to be apprehended.

SOKAPU called on Governor Uba Sani and security agencies to take swift action to arrest those responsible for the attacks in the Yadi community of Kauru LGA and other affected areas. The union also urged the government to provide relief to the victims to help them rebuild their lives.

The statement further noted that in a separate incident in Kauru LGA, Dr. Ishaya was killed, and eight others were kidnapped in Kwassam.

Additionally, the District Head of Garu, Alhaji Babangida Adamu Suleiman, was kidnapped in Lere LGA, and Pastor Peter Shabanyan was killed in Katul Crossing community of Kachia LGA.

SOKAPU’s plea underscores the escalating violence and insecurity in Southern Kaduna, calling for immediate government and security intervention to protect the lives and livelihoods of the affected communities.
