Following an appeal court ruling on Monday confirming Mohammed Alkali Imam as the authentic PDP governorship candidate in Borno state, his main challenger, Hon Mohammed Wakil, says he has accept the decision of the court, promising to work with Imam.

Recall that Alkali Imam, a former ANPP state chairman had emerged the Borno state PDP 2019 Governorship Flag Bearer having scored 2,785 to defeat his closest opponent Kyari Abba Bukar who scored 52 votes in September, 2018.

Wakil, a former Minister of State for Power and former Member of House of Representatives, who came third with 20 votes had challenged the result, dragging Imam to court.

In December, the Federal High Court, Maiduguri, upheld the election of Mohammed Imam, but Wakil appealed the judgement at the Appeal court which also confirmed the candidature of Imam on Monday.

Reacting to the judgement in statement on Monday, said he had accepted the counsel of the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku not to appeal the earlier judgement of the lower court but the state leadership of the party had however taken a different decision, choosing to file the appeal as a way of testing the legality of Borno PDP primaries.

“Now that the court had ruled and with few days to the election, I announce here publicly that I accept the court ruling and appeal to my supporters to support PDP candidate at all level on Saturday and subsequent polls.

“My appeal goes to all aggrieved PDP members to unite behind the umbrella and vote massively for Atiku Abubakar, our presidential hopeful, our governorship candidate, Muhammed Alkali Imam and all our legislative candidates for state and federal level.”

He however called on Imam to embrace all party members without discrimination, stressing that all hands must be on deck to achieve victory.

“Division cannot guarantee victory; only with a united house can we attain liberation of our people from oppression and exploitation,” he said.
