Adamawa REC to face trial for declaring Binani Governor-elect
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday decided it will write the Inspector-General of Police for the investigation and possible prosecution of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari.
This was part of the decision reached at an emergency meeting of the Commission on Tuesday, April 18.
The Commission is also requesting the Government of the Federation to draw the attention of the appointing authority to the unwholesome behaviour of the REC for further action.

And also affirmed that the collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer.
Ari had caused a major uproar after he announced Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the Adamawa governorship election on Sunday while collation was ongoing.

Before the collation exercise was suspended on Saturday, results from 10 local government areas had been announced and Binani was trailing the incumbent governor and the PDP candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri.
However, INEC swiftly denounced the purported declaration and suspended the collation of results of the supplementary election.
The electoral umpire further summoned the REC to Abuja with immediate effect and eventually suspended him.
