ADC’s Abejide declares himself sole party leader, slams coalition for ‘hijacking’ structures
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) member representing Yagba East/West and Mopa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Leke Abejide, has declared himself the sole leader of the party at the moment, accusing a coalition group within the ADC of attempting to hijack its structures without acknowledging longstanding members.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Abejide criticized the manner in which the coalition entered the party, alleging they acted “as if they own the party” and disregarded those who had sustained it over the years.

“What I have against the coalition is the way they came. If they came properly, with the betterment of the party in mind, there wouldn’t have been an issue. But when you come in and start sweeping people aside, taking charge as if you’ve been there for 1,000 years, that’s where I have a problem,” he said.
Abejide stressed that while every political party welcomes new members to grow, those joining must work with existing leaders rather than attempt to seize control.
Citing his home state of Kogi as an example, he noted that a meeting was recently scheduled at what was described as “the leader’s house,” even though he is the only elected ADC official in the National Assembly nationwide.
“I have been in ADC since 2018. I contested in 2019 and won. I never decamped. I completed my first term in the House of Representatives, and I am now in my second term. Another candidate from my state also won in 2019 because of how I made the party popular. If I had decamped like others, maybe the party would have been deregistered by now,” Abejide said.
