Angry youths burn NDLEA office, Invade Lafiagi Emir’s palace in Kwara amid rising insecurity

Intense anger boiled over in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Monday as youths, fed up with escalating insecurity, burn the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office and invaded the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi.

The widespread protest was sparked by the recent abduction of a Point of Sale (POS) agent and others, adding to a growing list of kidnappings and killings plaguing the community.

Sources indicate that the enraged youths, describing themselves as tired of government inaction and silence, stormed the streets demanding an end to the rampant abductions and bloodshed.

Videos and photos from the scene show the NDLEA office engulfed in flames, while the Emir’s palace suffered significant vandalism, including broken windows.

Residents expressed profound fear and frustration, stating that “people are being kidnapped every week,” and they “don’t sleep with our two eyes closed anymore.

” They lamented the perceived inaction of state and local authorities, including the Governor, Chairman, and even the Emir, in addressing the dire security situation.

The protest was a culmination of “bottled-up anger over repeated terrorist invasions,” with locals feeling abandoned amidst increasingly intense attacks.

Just recently, a popular POS agent named Yman was kidnapped on Sunday night, followed by the abduction of two Hausa men in Kokodo village early Monday morning.

These incidents came barely a day after a prominent agro-chemical dealer, Alhaji Chemical, was also abducted from his residence in Lafiagi.

Community sources confirmed the pervasive climate of fear and helplessness in Kwara North, urging swift action from security agencies to rescue those in captivity and stem the tide of insecurity.
