Kano State facilities renamed in Honor of 22 deceased athletes
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially renamed the Kano State Sports Institute and the Kano Sports Commission in memory of the 22 athletes who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in May of this year.
The athletes were returning from a national competition when the fatal incident occurred.
The renaming was announced by Governor Abba during a solemn ceremony held at the Government House in Kano on Sunday, as reported by the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Henceforth, the Kano State Sports Institute will be known as the Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Institute, a permanent tribute to the young lives cut short.
In a similar gesture, the state’s sports commission has also been renamed the Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Commission.
These facilities were renamed with aims to immortalize the athletes and serve as a constant reminder of their sacrifice and dedication to sports in the state.
