APC bleeding internally, Adamu, Tinubu dispute stalls campaign activities
Indicators of internal discontentment in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are becoming the obvious as campaign activities for the presidential and other elections are temporarily stalled as the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the APC national chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, continue to be at loggerhead. The letter of the APC chairman to Tinubu complaining of imbalanced structure of the presidential campaign council was leaked recently but some APC leaders and campaign workers of Tinubu vehemently denied the later.
While the denials of the Adamu’ letter to Tinubu was yet to be cleared from the party’s political atmosphere, the APC national chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, boycotted a meeting Tinubu held with APC) governors, National Working Committee (NWC) members and APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) last Wednesday. The party leaders at the second meeting in one week, were unable to agree on a date to kick-start campaigns for the 2023 elections.
The absence of the APC National Chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, at the meeting impaired crucial decisions and agreement on the campaign takeoff. There were indications that the chairman is still aggrieved with Tinubu.
the 422-member list of the presidential campaign council generated apprehension, increasing the pre-existing discontentment over Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket with Kashim Shettima. APC governors and other party leaders did not hide their ill-feelings over Tinubu’s list which excluded notable APC stakeholders.
Adamu had on September 28 issued a statement on the indefinite suspension of inauguration of the APC presidential campaign council, citing the imbalance membership of council members.
Participants at the meeting which was held at Transcorp Hotel, Abuja, include Tinubu, the Director General of the Council, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, APC Vice-presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima; including APC governors – Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje (Kano), Abubakar Badaru ( Jigawa) ), Bello Matawale (Zamfara), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abubakar Bello (Niger), AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Abdulahi Sule (Nasarawa), Lalong (Plateau), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Babagana Zullum (Borno) and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe).
