APC chieftain links Aisha Yesufu’s attack on Peter Obi to failed senate bid

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ayekooto Akindele, has alleged that activist and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, criticized the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, because of her failure to secure the party’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket.

Ayekooto made the claim in a post on his Facebook page while reacting to Yesufu’s remarks following Obi’s recent interview on Channels Television.

Yesufu had, on Monday, expressed disappointment over Obi’s appearance on the programme hosted by Seun Akinbaloye, saying she regretted spending time watching the interview.

According to her, the interview failed to offer fresh perspectives, arguing that neither the questions nor Obi’s responses provided Nigerians with information they had not heard before.

Responding to her criticism, Ayekooto suggested that her frustration was rooted in political disappointment after losing the NDC FCT senatorial primary.

He further alleged that the situation worsened after the NDC reportedly centralized its campaign funds, claiming Obi had not publicly addressed the development or defended those affected.

“The anger was aggravated when NDC centralised the campaign purse and Obi hasn’t criticised that in any of his numerous interviews, so what’s the essence of the interviews if Obi cannot defend you politically and financially?” Ayekooto wrote.

The APC chieftain also questioned why Yesufu chose to publicly criticize Obi instead of raising her concerns privately.

“Why can’t she advise him during their strategic session or, at best, during a private meeting?” he asked.

Ayekooto further suggested that if Yesufu had direct access to Obi, she would not have resorted to airing her grievances publicly, citing the view that trusted advisers typically express concerns behind closed doors rather than in the public space.
