APC National Chairmanship Race: Why Zulum persuaded President Buhari, APC govs to support Akume
Ahead of the forthcoming National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a Report credited to the Daily Post revealed that the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum has declared his Support for One of the National Chairmanship Aspirants, Senator George Akume. Speaking further, Zulum appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and APC Governors to back the Candidature of the Incumbent Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs.
Akume who hails from the North-Central Geo-political Zone has previously served as a Two-term Governor and Three-term Senator. He belongs to the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Bloc of the ruling party. Its no longer a news that no Northerner have been elected as the APC National Chairman, since the party was founded in 2013.
Recently, the APC Elders Forum endorsed and purchased Nomination Form for Senator Akume. They also expressed confidence that Akume ‘ll emerge victorious come March 26, 2022.
Governor Zulum who declared his Support for Akume after he paid a Courtesy call to the Minister in Abuja stated that it is necessary to give Christians in the ruling party the opportunity to occupy Leadership Positions.
