Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, dies at 91, hours after Buhari’s passing
Nigeria has lost another towering figure, as the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.
The highly revered monarch, who was one of the longest-reigning traditional rulers in Nigeria, reportedly died just hours after the announcement of the death of his close friend and former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Although official confirmation and details surrounding the circumstances of his death are still emerging, the news has already begun to send ripples of grief across Ogun State and the entire nation, particularly among the Ijebu people, who held him in high esteem for his decades of progressive and courageous leadership.
