Bandits compel Gov El-Rufai to shift LG poll in Kaduna
Bandits may have compelled Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State to postpone the local government election in the state to September. It was gathered that after extensive consultations with the governor, the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) postponed the local government election in the state to September 4, 2021.
Kaduna State has been under the siege of bandits who invade schools and homes with ease kidnapping residents of the state.
In recent kidnap operations in the state, 140 students were kidnapped from the Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi, Kaduna State. Though, they were later said to have regained freedom. Luckily, 28 students were said to have escaped being kidnapped by the bandits during the operations in the school.
Also, 10 persons were said to be kidnapped when bandits invaded the National Tuberculosis And Leprosy Training Centre, at Saye, in the Zaria environs.
In another banditry operation, the paramount ruler of the Ham nation, Kpop Ham Danladi Maude, was kidnapped by the invaders of his farmland.
The traditional ruler was kidnapped from his farm in Gitata, a border community with Nasarawa State, with one of his aides.
Insecurity in Kaduna State has risen to very high degree and apparently beyond the control of the government.
