Banks reopen ATMs, dispense old Naira notes
Some commercial banks in Lagos on Wednesday reopened their ATMs and dispensed cash in old notes to customers. At certain branches of Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Keystone Bank, among others, in Ikeja and the suburbs, ATMs were dispensing cash to customers, though, in limited amount of N5,000, and in some other branches N10,000.
That brought relief to Nigerians who have been buying Naira notes in the past four months at exorbitant costs.
Several other banks, which include U.B.A., Union Bank, Parallex Bank, Fidelity Bank, also paid cash over the counter.
At Zenith Bank, transactions in the banking hall were stalled following unavailability of network in the early hours of Wednesday into the midday. However, cash was withdrawn from the ATM gallery at some branches of the bank.
There are wide expectations that the situation would improve next week.
