Bauchi woman arrested after co-wife dies in alleged pestle attack

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, during a domestic dispute.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi State.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026.

According to Habib, the suspect allegedly picked up a pestle during the dispute and struck Adamu on the forehead.

The police spokesperson said the suspect was allegedly acting under hallucinations when the incident occurred.

Following a report of the domestic incident, detectives attached to the C-Division of the command were said to have mobilised to the scene.

The victim was subsequently taken to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor reportedly confirmed her death.

The police arrested Haruna and recovered the pestle allegedly used in the attack.

The command said investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

The case adds to concerns over domestic disputes escalating into serious violence, with law enforcement authorities continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
