CCTV captures brazen robbery of POS operator in Awka [VIDEO]
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has captured the moment suspected armed robbers attacked a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator and reportedly made away with a substantial amount of cash at Aroma Junction in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, throwing the busy commercial area into panic as the assailants reportedly targeted the operator before escaping with wads of naira notes.
The CCTV footage, which has circulated following the incident, reportedly showed the suspects approaching the POS operator and launching the attack.
The circumstances surrounding the robbery, including the number of suspects involved and the exact amount of money stolen, could not immediately be independently established.
The footage is expected to assist security agencies in identifying the suspects and reconstructing the circumstances leading to the robbery.
Aroma Junction is one of the busy areas in Awka, with commercial activities and financial transactions taking place daily. POS operators in such locations often handle significant amounts of cash, making them potential targets for criminals.
The latest incident has again raised concerns over the security of POS operators and other cash-handling businesses in Anambra State, particularly in densely populated commercial areas.
Residents and traders are expected to rely on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and recover the stolen money.
Authorities have not yet publicly disclosed whether arrests have been made in connection with the robbery.
The incident also underscores the importance of CCTV surveillance and other security measures around commercial centres, as footage from the scene could provide investigators with critical evidence about the identities and movements of the suspected robbers.
Further details, including an official statement from the Anambra State Police Command and the condition of the victim, are awaited.
