Chief of Army Staff makes operational visit to Sokoto as bandits invade Goronyo LGA
The Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, on Monday made an operational visit to Sokoto State after bandits invaded Goronyo Local Government Area, killing about 30 persons. Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya arrived at the 8th Division Nigeria Army Headquarters, Sokoto, as he intended to present an operational vehicle to the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM). He paid courtesy visit to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, thereafter, is expected to extend same to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Bandits had on Sunday invaded the Goronyo Market in Goronyo Local Government Area in Eastern Senatorial District.
The bandits were said to have invaded the community in large numbers on Sunday night, storming the market and shooting sporadically, killing people in the operation.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal during a courtesy visit at the Sokoto State Government House, by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, lamented that not less than 30 persons were killed in the Goronyo township attack, the headquarters of Goronyo Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, is expected to inspect the military formations in Sokoto during his visit.
